American Gothic
The American Gothic is the name of an event that took place across the United States involving a cult known as the Brujería.
Overview[]
The American Gothic was the result of a malignant South-American cult named the Brujeria who would use the effects of the Apocalypse to help them destroy the Heavens, and as part of their plot, they began raising and summoning all sorts of evil occurrences and entities to terrorize America.
History[]
Background[]
While minor at first, a series of supernatural events began to grow more prevalent and exceedingly dangerous. These events would be conjured by the Brujeria who would also come to ally themselves with Samyaza, the leader of the fallen Watchers that observed humanity during the days of Noah, to destroy Heaven by releasing the Rising Darkness. Despite the thwarting of the apocalypse and Lucifer's imprisonment, the after-effects proved to be beneficial for the Brujería as the apocalypse's effects weakened the metaphysical barriers that kept certain malevolent and powerful forces at bay.
Samyaza promised the Brujería in bringing forth the desired New World that they originally sought. And in following his commands, they will release him by weakening his chains that keep him and his kin at bay and summon Azathoth. They instigated a series of events to increase humanity's belief in the supernatural, specifically, those elements of the supernatural commonly associated with darkness and evil. This would have a detrimental effect on the Collective Consciousness, where the destructive thoughts of humanity overtake their rationale, expressing nothing but fear, contempt, and hatred for all things supernatural and take matters into their own hands which would incite chaos across America. As the psychic faith of humanity's belief strengthened, the power of the Darkness became more pronounced.
Midnight Suns[]
John Constantine was the first to notice these string of not-so random supernatural occurrences and aside from his own cre would come across other supernaturally enhance individuals that wound up facing and investigating these threats. When the Laughing Magician first realized the scope and magnitude of the threat that is on the horizon after he encountered the angel known as 'Ezekiel' he opted to form a loose alliance of individuals intimately versed within the supernatural which led to the formation of the Midnight Suns. Together they would combat the enormous power of the Brujería, all while being cryptically guided by Ezekiel.
The Midnight Suns used the power of the House of Ideas to travel across the United States when they are given an alert involving something unnatural occurring. These events often involved demons, ghosts, and monsters whose behaviors were not of the norm and were present in areas they were not normally found. Humans were also affected as a result of the Collective Conciousness being continuously exposed to the reality that does not align with the perception of the world's normality. They would engage in and commit atrocious acts ranging from brutal murder, rape, and incest.
By the near end, it was revealed that the angel 'Ezekiel' was in fact Samyaza who tricked Constantine and the Midnight Suns into giving the Brujería what they want. The Midnight Suns would be split apart by the Brujeria after they targeted their loved ones with one of the casualties being the American artist and psychic Emma, British nun Sister Anne-Marie, several hunters closely associated with members of the Midnight Suns, and Professor Broom who was killed by a Deep One by the orders of Grigori Rasputin, who too was a member of the Brujeria to lure Hellboy into unleashing the Ogdru Jahad back into the mortal world. They unintentionally released the Grigori from their chains with the host of fallen angels making their way towards Heaven. Samyaza desired to rule over creation and remake it in his image and so he began seeking the fabled Nihilo Mask.
