Tapio bestowed traps from forest and Ahti brought fish from the water
~ Mikael Agricola

Ahti was the old Finnish god of the sea, who used to reside in the Baltic Sea.

Overview[]

He was married to married goddess Vellamo, with both of them residing at bottom of sea which is called Ahtola, and resides over lesser creatures of the sea, such as Väki and the Iku-Turso. The old pagans of Finland prayed to Ahti for generous catch of fish and good weathers at sea.

Some old witches also used the name of sea god in their incantations and spells.

Under unknown circumstances, Ahti ended up working for the Federal Bureau of Control while being monitored by the Foundation. Roaming their some of the more classified and guarded complexes as a "janitor" he performs tasks that seem menial but are vital to the safety of people within and constantly instructs Jesse Faden to help him.

Scientists constantly attempted to interrogate Ahti, but always the "janitor" eluded them with surprising knowledge of the world. While Ahti is alleged to be its "janitor", in reality, he is an extremely powerful Finnish deity of the same name something which they have come to accept and believe. They left him to his devices as he did not appear to threaten their safety.

Description[]

He was partially impetuous and vindictive towards his people, though he was just and loving king to own folk. In the guise of a human, Ahti comes across as an offbeat and somewhat unsettling individual with a nonetheless kind hearted personality. Ahti would come to people he perceives as "special" or "important" often guiding them in the most cryptic of ways. Even when speaking English, he frequently speaks in Finnish idioms, many of which are literally translated into English regardless of context.
