Akhlys

Achlys.

Minor goddess? I was old before the Titans were born, you ignorant girl. I was old when Gaea first woke. Misery is eternal. Existence is misery. I was born of the eldest ones - of Chaos and Night.
~ Achlys
Wallowing in self-pity won't help you; after all, if you earn the pity of the being who personifies misery and sadness, you truly must be pathetic, no?
~ Achlys

Achlys was the Greek Primordial goddess (and personification) of misery, poisons and sadness and who symbolizes the Mist of Death. Achlys also was the eternal night before the void. She is the daughter of Night and Chaos though some stories say she is just the daughter of Chaos with no mother.

Description[]

She keeps Heracles' shield with her to remind people about the pain and sadness it caused her. Her hobbies are clawing at her cheeks to make them bleed, she takes pleasure in crying no matter how much it hurts. She can create poisonous flowers by just summoning them to her will. She is said to be a victim of famine with looking pale, emaciated, and weeping, with chattering teeth, swollen knees, long nails on her fingers, bloody cheeks, and her shoulders thickly covered with dust.

Overview[]

Like her mother's dark, deep, and mysterious characteristics, she wants to make anyone suffer by poisoning them with her potions, and clawing her cheeks to make everyone feel sorry for her, though everyone's reaction is normally vomiting in disgust. She loves the dark insects such as the spiders, cockroaches, and the foggy midnight moons. She also enjoys torturing herself, something that Nyx hates. Unlike her mother, Achlys hates Hemera as she is the eternal night whereas Hemera is the exact opposite of her, the bright day.

She may also have been the goddess of deadly poisons as presented by Nonnus. According to the DionysiacaHera procured from Achlys treacherous flowers of the field which shed a sleeping charm over the sons of the Nymphs Lamusides (nurses of Dionysus). The goddess then distilled poisoned drugs over their hair and smeared a magical ointment over their faces, changing their human shape into that of the Horned Centaurs.
